Episodes and DVDs
#1
I create this thread to talk about Strawberry Shortcake episodes and DVD releases.

First I'd like to recite which SSC episodes I've already seen, with dates, mostly for myself, though this way maybe I also remind you of some berry kind moments. Smile

06.21.: Let's Dance
06.25.: Berry Big Journeys
06.26.: Growing up Dreams
07.02.: Big Country Fun
07.03.: Berry Brick Road
07.09.: Happily Ever After
07.10.: Berrywood, Here We Come!
07.13.: Meet Strawberry Shortcake

So I finally watched my DVD, "Meet Strawberry Shortcake", I'll talk about it later. I saw all the other episodes on TV. Anyway, I've found out that the TV channel doesn't broadcast the episodes in order of releases. Moreover, the DVD releases are also mixed up a little here. (For example, "Spring for Strawberry Shortcake" is labeled as the 3rd DVD in Hungary, while according to Wikipedia, it's really the 2nd DVD release.) Anyway, all the episodes are released here (even "Berry Brick Road), however "The Sweet Dreams Movie" is not released in Hungary, or at least I couldn't find anything about it.

About the DVD, I'm a bit of dissatisfied by its quality. It contains the episode in 3 languages: Hungarian, Czech, English. Though the menus are only available in Hungarian and Czech, not in English. There are no subtitles. The menu screen shows both the Hungarian and the Czech SSC logo in the right and left corners of the screen - they didn't bother to create different splash screens for the two languages. When I select "Play", a short commercial is shown that tells me to buy the other SSC DVDs from the publisher, and then the show starts. The only problem that the commercial is pretty loud, while the movie itself is pretty quiet, even related to the menu. Right, just turn up the volume, but when the menu returns, or you start the episode again (so the loud commercial is shown again), you'll get a shock of the sound. The Extras menu contains descriptions of some characters. These descriptions are quite poor and they even have some grammatical errors. After all the movie's quality is acceptable, and that is the point.

As I expected, "Meet Strawberry Shortcake" was more childish than I got used to, and so I think I prefer the season 4 episodes. Though I still liked the first episode after all, I didn't get disappointed, it was just like I expected it to be. And I'm curious about all the other episodes as well. Smile

And I am sad - curious why? I've found out that I've seen almost all the season 4 episodes. I've seen a bit of even the two remaining ones (I just missed the beginning of them). I expected the TV channel to restart the series from the very beginning when it gets to the end of it, but instead it will broadcast a different show in Strawberry's former timeframe. That means I'll be left without Strawberry Shortcake for a berry lot of time. Sad And now I'm really regretting that I didn't buy more DVDs in the supermarket. Who knows when will I find discounted SSC DVDs again? So I'm quite sad because I miss Strawberry, I want to see more episodes! Can you tell me something to cheer me up?

Your English is very good, so I'm sure you could understand the English version. Amazon.com still has all non-dubbed DVDs for sale.

I know, not much of a helpful comment. I'm sorry.

AFAIK the media shops here in the Philippines sell the original undubbed versions of the DVDs, albeit pressed locally.

Anyway, are the American SSC DVDs region-free? I'm not sure if I'd order one I could play it, because of region codes.

I think you misunderstood my rant a little: it's OK if I can't get a DVD with Hungarian dub, English is also fine. Moreover, it's a requirement, because I'd like to see the episodes in original language as well. What bugs me, that I just can't get SSC for a while - the TV stopped broadcasting it, and who knows when will I find SSC DVDs again, especially discounted ones. I should have bought more when I had the chance. I could also order from the Internet, but you know I really need to consider how I spend the little money I have. Ordering from the Internet should be more expensive because of the shipping cost. So I'm just out of SSC, and that's it.

Though I'm missing subtitles from the DVDs - I would watch the episodes in English with English subtitles, because it would be just easier to understand English if I could read what they say exactly.

One other thing I found out about the Hungarian SSC DVDs - as I said, their order is mixed up a little, I told the 2nd and 3rd DVDs as example. Now I know they are also mixing up the extras. My "Meet Strawberry Shortcake" DVD has a video clip (regardless that the DVD case didn't mention it), it has the song titled "A Snappy Ginger Snap". But I just found out that this song is supposed to be on the "Spring for Strawberry Shortcake" DVD, and I should have "Knock Knock, Who's There?" on "Meet Strawberry Shortcake". Confusedhock: Though I'm fine with that, until they release all of the video clips after all, the order is not that important. Though I was informed of this from a fan-made site, because it's not an official source, it might mistake.

Well, no. He was never a member of any of our defunct forums, but he was kinda active at the TV.com site. He was the one that dragged me into Strawberry Shortcake.

I said "was" because that's the said friend that Wade and I are worried sick about since said friend vanished without a trace last month.

Anyways, another thing you could try is to source the VideoCDs from Asia, which are definitely region free. The downside is that Season 4 was never released on VCD- the last VCD release was Berry Blossom Festival.

I wouldn't worry too much about region locking tho- a cheapo region-free DVD player solves this problem.

Oh, I mixed him up with someone else. I had no idea he was the same person who went missing. There was a set of bad storms and tornadoes in the missing person's area in late May. Have you talked to him since then?

Well, we've tried to, but we had not gotten any replies from him.

Few days ago I went back to the same supermarket in the hope that I'll find more Strawberry Shortcake DVDs, but there weren't any. I should have bought more when I had the chance 3 weeks ago. I know I've already told that.

So I searched on the Internet whether I could order some DVDs online, but I found it's not an option, because the shipping costs are hell expensive. But then I've found some second-hand DVDs on an auction portal, where anyone may sell their items they don't need anymore. There are people who sell SSC DVDs on a reasonable price, and they send their items by ordinary postal services (that is a lot cheaper than the shipping costs of online stores).

Then if everything goes well, I'll purchase this, this and this DVDs. I need to win the auction on the first one (that shouldn't be hard, because no one has made an offer for 3 weeks, and now only a few hours are left, and the only offer is mine); there are no auction on the other ones (they are sold on a fix price), but first I need to consult with the seller about some details, and anyone may buy the items meanwhile. So wish me good luck!
