I thought keyboards and mice used USB 1.1. USB 1.1 is practically all I need. Do you plan on connecting a hub to the KVM and using a USB 2.0 device?

The KVM also connects to a webcam, which is USB 2.0. I think it's impractical to have 4 webcams.

Also, this new KVM supports higher bandwidth DVI, which allows 120Hz 1080p operation and higher (even 4K). But that's not the main reason I got it. The other reason I got this is that it has a much improved video chipset. The old KVM has a habit of causing several flavors of Linux, pre-7 versions of Windows and Mac OS X to drop to 1024x768 when you switch away to a different PC and back (and thus messing up the desktop). The new KVM's video chipset fixes that by cloning the monitor's DDC data and presenting that to the computers so that the resolution won't be changed, thus preserving the desktop.

I'll take note of that, even though I plan on using a 1280x1024 display. I don't know how I would know if a particular KVM I buy would support DDC cloning, especially those low-end eBay models.

So, on my birthday yesterday, the FCC approved municipal broadband expansion and net neutrality.

I never used to care about net neutrality and passed it off, saying a world without it is no different from before... specifically the way customers pay more for faster speeds. However, after switching mostly to Linux and researching the issue, I ended up supporting net neutrality late in the game. I have to thank my conservative "friends" on FB for actually helping me. They were spreading FUD about net neutrality (saying it's a government takeover, that kind of thing), while from my research, showed there really is nothing to fear.

Is the battle over? No. The corporate ISPs plan litigation and politicians are complaining, and it's CPAC weekend too. >.<

Too bad the same kind of net neutrality wouldn't be an easy cause to fight for in here, considering as the Philippine oligarchy makes the one in the US seem more like a cakewalk.

Greta is having a good time with Kubuntu... except after playing games once in a while.

After playing an OpenGL game like SuperTux or Briquolo for about an hour or more and close it, KDE will basically freeze up when you attempt to run any other program (be it a game or the terminal window), and the screen goes to black. No cursor or blinking line, and at one time, a brief bit of terminal text flashed by, but it went so fast I couldn't read it. Greta is stuck... Ctrl-Alt-Backspace doesn't work, and all appears dead. However, pressing the power button initiates a proper shutdown sequence. Disk activity and eventual power off. Once Greta is rebooted, KDE is fine again. I don't think her graphics hardware is failing since games running on either GPU don't show any artifacts or other obvious display corruption issues while running.

At this point in troubleshooting, it appears that this happens when games use Bumblebee to access her Nvidia GPU. I haven't seen it occur after playing a game with the Intel HD graphics. And judging by the way I can still shut down Greta when her screen goes black, it's not some sort of kernel oops/panic, but either a bug with Bumblebee or Bumblebee causing a problem with Kubuntu's X server.

I wonder what else it could be?

Weekend comes and goes quickly.

My external HD just refuses to work properly if plugged into USB 3.0 sockets. I had to plug it into 2.0 sockets at the back of the PC, which is tiring because the PC is located under my desk against a wall.

Uninstalled an old MMO I don't play anymore, and then suddenly the MMO I currently play had no sound. Reinstalled DirectX 9.0 and the sound worked again.

How does your external HDD behave when it's plugged into USB 3.0, and what particular brand is the drive? I'm curious since I have a custom HDD enclosure... a NexStar TX with my own 300gb HDD inside... and it works fine with Audrey's front USB 3.0 slots. No dropouts or device connection issues.
