Lost a friend and very sad. She didn't die. She's not my friend anymore and I can't figure out why. That's sad Macs are supposed to last. Though I do think that maybe Apple just didn't want to fix it given that it can't run Mac OS X Mavericks. If you don't feel like giving up, there's a few other unofficial repair centers you can try- those will invariably have more success in fixing it because they tend to stock older repair parts. Given that the laptop no longer has warranty anyway, it may be worth a last ditch effort.

Your Macbook was a friend and even though she just went up and died, you should still try and keep it around for sentimental value. +1. I still have the original Dongwa, if it matters. He now lives in a nook between Nadine and Quetzal II.

As mentioned earlier, Edison croaked on me. However, due to his nature, he can be easily brought back to life, and made more powerful in the process. And given how the most important parts of him has been declared obsolete by NVidia and AMD respectively, it's probably a silver lining in the cloud. Granted, for some people this is as horrifying as Dr. Frankenstein building his monsters, but there's a bit of mad scientist in every geek. That, and it's cheaper to upgrade than to buy a new gaming PC outright. However, given my tight budget at the moment, looks like he'll be out until well past December, well past the Steam lucky draw which I have no real hope of completing now :/
Yes, Dongwa can enter the lucky draw, but then he seems to have trouble running Steam. Maybe OpenSUSE was a bad idea and it'd do me good to have them both on Ubuntu? :/ But even the head of GNU and FSF has spoken out against Ubuntu for the Amazon search lens widget which he sees as a lame money-grabbing attempt. Clementine? Still working on it...

You know that $80 Parallels Desktop software I bought for Lilly two years ago? It's worthless when I upgrade to OSX Mavericks, unless if I want to shell out some more money to upgrade to the latest version.
This is just a ploy to make people part with more of their money. I believe that Parallels Desktop 7 would run fine on Mavericks, or perhaps with a few glitches but none too severe.
I miss the old Apple... before the iPad arrived. I guess Lilly really was a mistake. I should have made her a PC from the get go.
Yes, I know Parallels is not an Apple product, but they cater to Apple users, and it looks like they are going the same way as Apple.

There's this modular phone concept called Phone Bloks, but I have doubts about it, and if it's feasible, it might not bode well with the manufacturers' business model.

I never understood why people pay for Parallels Desktop when VirtualBox is far more versatile and can boot much more than Windows.
Oh, right. The curse of Oracle. Somebody should fork it- a 100% GPL fork will not only be popular as the only reason many people are avoiding Virtualbox is because it's owned by Oracle, but it will also put Parallels out of business overnight.

At the time, I thought Parallels was a good deal. It actually used Intel virtualization technology. I don't know if VirtualBox does, but I wanted top performance from my VM, and Parallels fit the bill. I also didn't have to run my VM in a separate window either. I was attracted to the prettiness of the Coherence mode.
It was good software, until Parallels started acting like the Norton of old by charging you to upgrade to a version that runs on Mavericks.
If I ever want to run XP again, I still have old Jasper around at least.

Although due to the extremely comprehensive set of features, it's challenging to use. Which adds to the excitement

I wonder how Prue is doing?
I wonder when Nintendo will finally release Flipnote Studio 3D? I have ideas in my brain that need to be let out!
I wonder when all the bickering in Washington will end?
I wonder if "Pablo the Little Red Fox" would have been more appreciated in the US if it aired on a US network?
