So I decided to benchmark Eva and Eve

Eve

Seems pretty outlandish that Eve can do something 20 times faster than Eva Confusedhock:

I guess that's the power of the Apple A6X, or Apple Swift.

Comparing Eva's specs from Apple, she is almost on the same level as my tablets in terms of ARM processor technology and speed. Though my two tablets have more RAM while the first gen iPads just have 256mb DDR RAM.

Now I want to test Linpack on Herman and Fluttershy. Luckily there is a free ad supported version on Amazon AppStore. I will go ahead and get that now and report back with the results.

One last thing....I changed my mind on tablet order. Herman is the primary tablet once again, for a couple reasons. More internal storage for apps and the ability to play Fruit Ninja without fear of damaging the touch screen. Fluttershy also takes an astonishing 3 minutes to start up once I get all my apps synced to her, which could be the side effect of nearly using up all internal storage. She is also afraid of WiFi apparently. Once in a while, turn on WiFi, and she either reboots or freezes and shuts down. This has never happened with Herman, who still boots up in around 30 seconds with all my apps synced.

Being discount Android tablets, the performance in MFLOPS is far below that of Eve. In fact, Eva happens to be faster by about 40 to 45 MFLOPS.

I was surprised a bit by Herman's score as you can see above. He has a few more MFLOPS than Fluttershy.

Nice. Have to go to work tomorrow Sad

Also, I learnt the importance of taking nightly backups of both Eva and Eve. That, and not doing stupid stuff like logging into the same GameLoft Live account from two different devices.

Eva's Ponyville got nuked after I messed with the GameLive settings on Eve >.<

So, what ended up being accidentally deleted before the nightly backups began?

In other news.... It turns out that I will have enough dough saved up to potentially get that $179 Samsung "Galaxy Tab 2" 7'' tablet. It's part of a three day sale, starting on Thanksgiving. There are two problems....there may be other things that I will want on BF, and by the time we get to Mitchell, the Galaxy Tabs may be sold out.

I read and watched reviews of the Galaxy Tab 2, and it looks like a really great tablet. It runs Android 4.0.3 ICS, has a capacitive screen, dual-core processor, 8gb of internal storage, and expandable memory via MicroSD. Best of all, it's Google Certified...which means it has access to Google Play!

However, you can't move apps to the SD card for some reason. It also uses some sort of proprietary connector, like an old 30-pin iPad connector.

I am fine with my current duo of tablets, but a Galaxy Tab 2 7'' would be very nice to have...if not just for the support it gets. The low-end Rockchip/Allwinner tablets have a charm too...it's hard to pick and choose between the two to be honest.

I would have my Black Friday game plan all set up now....if someone would have leaked that Menards advertisement by now. I'm still hoping it gets leaked by the Sunday...if not, I will have to wait a few more days to grab the official PDF from Menards' website.

On Tuesday, I went ahead and installed Windows Updates for Wendell and Greta. Greta had an optional nVidia display driver available for about a month, and I made sure twice that it wasn't checked off when I initiated the install. So all goes well and both systems are up to date.

However, while doing something earlier today on Greta, I noticed that the WEI score needed to be refreshed because it detected new hardware. I went and checked her nVidia drivers, and they are still the same versions that shipped. Afterwards, I checked Windows Update to see if that particular driver update got installed even though it was unchecked. It was no longer showing up in the list of optional updates. I then check the update history, and the nVidia driver is not in the list. The updated drivers also don't show up in the Add/Remove Programs....they still show the drivers as being the version that came preinstalled.... namely v285.64. Optimus still works as it should, and my program settings never got erased.

I'm confused. Did the driver update install or did it not? All evidence suggests that the Windows Update driver didn't install, and I am not experiencing any odd display issues or BSODs, but why would it disappear from the Windows Update optional list? I never hid the update.

UPDATE: Okay, on my home WiFi, the driver update appears in the optional list once again. When I launched Windows Update earlier, I was on the college WiFi network.

The good news is that the driver never installed! Smile I went ahead and promptly hid the nVidia update just to be safe.

I somehow managed to cause the game to crash and no longer be able to start up >.<

Well, if you can get the Samssung, go for it. Definitely steps ahead of those cheapo tablets!

I'll try, but I can't guarantee it as the tablet could be sold out by the time I get to Kmart.

But, the urge to get a Samsung Galaxy Tab is rising to be honest. As much as I like the cheap tablets, I am sort of afraid to get another low-end tablet. Even if said tablet runs Android ICS well, these tablets tend to suck at battery life. And most are single core while we are heading into a multi-core world.

The Samsung GT2 can last up to 11 hours. That means I would have far more gaming time than my current tablets. The GT2 also has the same video support that my current tablets have. It's true that the Rockchip/Allwinner tablets may have hardware support for additional file formats such as RMVB, but I have never come across an RMVB video. (RMVB is popular in China, hence why it's inside those Rockchip/Allwinner CPUs)

The Galaxy Tab 2 even has a built in GPS! You can even use the GT2 as a TV remote as well!

...

You know what? I may just go ahead and get a Samsung GT2 if there is any left. It's something I can instantly attach a name to without regretting it. As for that name? Haven't decided but I'm close to a name.

I also have a question regarding that MLP:FIM game. Being a Farmville-type game, I expect it to be addictive. But, have you found a way to keep the MLP:FIM game in moderation? Can the gameplay become tedious at times?
