The Spam Thread!
So the My Little Pony app was released today.

The good news is, it supports iOS5, at least for now.

The bad news? It rubbed me the wrong way by reverting Luna to Nightmare Moon and having her as a villain. A VILLAIN IN A FARMVILLE-STYLE GAME! Which makes no sense since THESE FARMVILLE-TYPE GAMES CAN HOLD UP WELL EVEN WITHOUT A STORY AND DEFINITELY DOESN'T NEED A VILLAIN!

Well, I'm going to try pushing on and see what happens. If it goes iOS6-exclusive, I'm ready- I've pulled some strings and managed to get some help from relatives in Singapore. Just sad that Eva will have to be left out like that tho. And that I'm going to try to find RM2,000 to pay said relative back (yes, two whopping thousand Malaysian dollars)

But which one to choose?

Walmart and Kmart have loads of discount tablets on sale for BF, nearly too many to choose. All of them I seen have capacitive screens, which is good. The troublesome part is finding reviews. Many of these tablets won't be released to the public until BF, which means hardly any reviews exist. There are a handful that have reviews though, and so far, they seem to rate three or four stars.

Kmart has a "Maylong" Android 4.0 tablet for sale that comes with a neat case as well as a keyboard too. But some Maylong tablets have horrible reviews, so I'm not sure I would go for it. If I had extra money to burn, I could buy it just for it's stand and USB keyboard.

However, Kmart will also have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 for only $177.99. That is a sweet discount on a name-brand tablet, but it's not quite there. If I had just a bit more money saved, I could have went for it. And there is that HypeAversion as well....I try to stay away from the crowd and try to find a discount tablet that works for what I want it to.

I'm still waiting to see what Menards will have for BF, and if they even will have a tablet. If they do have a tablet, it could possibly be a Polaroid or a generic no-name. Menards loves generic no-name electronics from China.

Before I decide whether or not to get another tablet, I have been testing the usefulness of my current tablets. In short, Fluttershy seems to have the best battery life and touch screen, while Herman is slightly less so. She also has better performance benchmarks for games and speed. Herman seems to lag at times, and games don't run at a full smooth framerate. But, Herman can run 'Where's My Water?' while Fluttershy can't. He also has more internal memory...4gb. I attribute Fluttershy's better battery life and performance to Android 2.3. It's not the latest version, but it doesn't suck up as much resources as Android 4.0 ICS. Android ICS is wonderful and has better usability than 2.3, but if the hardware doesn't run it well, what's the point of using it?

Thus, it's really hard to decide if I should switch back to Fluttershy and keep Herman as secondary, or just get a new tablet altogether. By the time BF comes, I should have made my decision.

So my brother recently started playing FF XIII and I watched him sometimes. As far as I observed, the game seems nice. Battles are fast paced and feel real, and they have nice character development. I begin to wonder why it drew a lot of hate.

I want to get into the FF games, as my long lost friend was a big fan of them as well. If I do, I have some catching up to do to make sure that I play them in order. FF XIII is on PS3 or Xbox 360, so I doubt I will get around to playing it since I am a Wii person, but who knows?

Well, I suggest reconsidering the Samsung. Since it's CPU is certified by Google compared to the GC800 or RockChip, and thus it has Google Play store access proper.

My understanding is that people find the story too linear and there's not much sidequests to do up until you escape Cocoon for Gran Pulse. And once you make it to Gran Pulse, suddenly it's a shellshock and you're stuck in this wide open sandbox world with so much decision of what to do next.

I too like the game, but yes, I got to Gran Pulse, and then got overwhelmed there and stopped playing indefinitely Tongue

Man, the ability to have the game sync between two iPads would be nice. Monopoly Hotels does have said function, why can't the MLP game?

Looking into it, the game already does upload your town layout into the cloud. Why can't that be used to sync across multiple devices?

As I said before, it's time to consider a real Android tablet to tag along with Eva. Even a $150 - $200 USD Android 2.3 tablet would be sufficient....hopefully....for the MLP game. Those discount tablets tend to use Rockchip or Allwinner processors that have built in Open GL GPUs. Along with possible MLP game compatibility, many Android tablets have expandable memory and the ability to add your own apps without jailbreaking. The tablet may even come rooted from the factory as with my tablets!

I'm being preachy the goodness about Android, I know, but IMO, it's far better than iOS when it comes to personalizing it your own way. And with Apple shunning older iPads faster and faster to force people into upgrading to expensive new models, you really should start seriously considering adding an Android tablet.

As for that new MLP:FIM game, I would love to have it on my own tablets, but it appears to be a Farmville type game, and I strive to avoid those to avoid pointless addiction to said games.

Not gonna work. The game is only available through Google Play Store. And those Rockchip and Allwinner tablets almost certainly comes without that.

The app runs surpringly smoothly on Eva tho, albeit at a grainy low XGA resolution and short freezes when notifications decide to show while the game is running. On Eve, there's a separate set of weirdness going on that I don't see happening on Eva...

Oh yeah.... thanks for reminding me. Tongue I'm so used to the Amazon AppStore, I forget about Google Play and how it doesn't always exist on the cheaper tablets.

There are some Rockchip/Allwinner tablets that do come with Google Play, but they aren't official Google devices, and the Google Play included is grey market, if it works at all. If you want Official Google Play, a name brand Android tablet is the only way.

But, there are decent Android tablets from Samsung that come with Google Play. I believe the non-3g Galaxy Tabs normally run about $350 USD here. More internal storage (say 32gb) drives up the price though.

But you mention Eve and Eva...does that mean you gone ahead and purchased a new iPad? I recall in the messages above that you have to pay some relative back a whole lot of money.

And if you didn't take a look at the Computer's forum, I put my two tablets to a performance test, and I switched back to Fluttershy. It's a good read.
