Does the computer game named "Oregon Trail" count as a video game? If so, I played that once or twice long ago, and tonight played it repeatedly. Groups of five must try to reach Oregon in the years 1848-1849. None of my groups have survived yet. Everyone gets sick and, more often than not, you can do nothing to help them if there is no fort in sight. You also risk drowning, bear attacks, starvation, etc.

My last game was pathetic, yet oddly in-character for the most part.

"Purple Pie Man has severe diarrhea!" was its first alert. I made a sound between a snort and a laugh, upon reading that. Pie Man was complaining for the first part of the trip, even after the rest at the first fort. Cranberry Crisp was later attacked by a bear and she died, after which Pie Man stopped complaining and almost immediately died, too, presumably of a broken heart. Stella Grapes was then very upset and continually asked to stop the journey, although she was better for a while after another rest at a fort. While climbing a mountain, Somnus died, and Grapes returned to her depression, ate poison berries, and died. Strawberry Shortcake was the only character who didn't get sick during all of this, except for Cranberry who was finished off by a bear early on. Well, throughout all this, the oxen pulling the group's cart were dying. Strawberry's last ox, a replacement ox, died with Oregon in sight. On this same day, she fell out of the cart and broke her arm. She had to trade her last supplies for an ox, then drive on with a broken arm. She died trying to do this. I told you the game was very pathetic!

All of these games end up pathetically, unless you're a complete expert at the game as a whole.

it does, if Strawberry Shortcake: Berry Best Friends count as a game.

Are you running that on an Emulator tho? I last played that on an Apple II emulator. And never completed it.

I completed "F**k Oregon, Let's go find El Dorado" a few times already tho.

Noted. As for dysentery, avoid touching streams or rivers. (Unless that rules only apply for the "Let's Go Find El Dorado" variant I was playing.

Ahh. I often end up thinking about that Swedish kid ever since I heard about the dysentery meme. Being that she's a Pioneer and all.

That was Kirsten's friend, Marta, who died from dysentery in the books.

There isn't a way you can avoid rivers on Oregon Trail or similar games. Paying for a ferry or other ride, if you have enough money, won't always ensure health. Marta died on a ferry, remember?

David, I thought you were joking about the El Dorado game. Now I'll see if I can find it.

It's an iPad/PC game, tho the title of the iPad version has been toned down, but is more cleaned up.
