I asked the shop to sell the old board as a second hand item if they can find a buyer, but seeing that the old PSU which I had left there for the same reason is still there to this day, I'm pretty sure the board is still there as well.

My parents are going to buy a new PC for themselves soon, so I don't see this "miss" as a loss since I can have the shop use the replaced parts so far.

That's a good idea. Give the B75 to your parents (since they don't play "heavy" 3D games, but I assume your dad will use the new PC for work which will benefit from the stability of the B75), and take back the H77. I think your parents should be able to live with the onboard video, which will save them a few thousand rupiahs. As for your brother's PC tho, yeah. NVidia GT650Ti without boost is the middle-end card, but if you're on a tight budget, the GT640 as Blake suggested will do. Try to not use an ATI card on an Intel motherboard- since AMD owns ATI now, ATI cards works best on AMD motherboards.

And even better- because the onboard graphics is quite weak, it doesn't use much power- so you may be able to use back the old PSU on it as well for your parents' new PC, saving even more money.

Finally, after a long procrastination because of various reasons from both me and the store, someone from the store came to switch the GPUs. It was not the technician, but the owner of the store himself.

Anyway, I hope the mysterious problem is now in my PC. It has been unanswered for too long.

Wrong answer again. It was not the GPU either. His computer just froze again. Now I really have no idea.

*sigh* I'm lost. I'm thinking drivers or the fact that it's an ATI video card (AMD owns ATI, so it's logical that they'd sabotage the card so that it's trouble on an Intel board), but really, I don't know how to prove it.

I don't think that's the case since my PC has the same spec and there's no problem here.

Since upgrading PSU somewhat mended the problem, I'm guessing that the problem involves voltage somewhere in there. But what? I still have no clue.

Anyway, this morning I tried exchanging our UPS. I kinda suspect this because whenever there's a power failure, his UPS light flashes orange from the start instead of green like mine. His UPS also seems to run out faster than mine. Let's wait and see again...


By the way, what's the probability of either the processor or the HDD being the cause of this?

HDD: low. you'll know it's the HDD if the light for the drive stays on without going out and the drive is making clicking noises. and checking the disk results in a lot of bad sectors.

CPU: more probable, but unlikely. usually when the CPU fails the computer will fail to boot at all. but there have been very remote cases where the computer can boot but is very unstable, but as I said it's very rare.

And today his PC froze again. I'm getting sick of this.

Also, this time it froze not while playing game, but while browsing with 7 tabs open. It seems any activity that takes a certain amount of power has a chance to freeze the pc.

The two things previously mentioned, hdd and cpu, are not things which can be switched on a whim. I'm pretty much at a dead end here.
