Tribute to the authors?
#1
What do you think, is there a way to express our admiration to the creators regarding their work on Strawberry Shortcake? I mean, for example, sending fan mail to the writers, voice actors, animators who worked on the series, expressing our gratitudes and asking questions.

I have tried to look for their addresses on FanMail.biz with no success. Though as I observed, fan mail addresses are not always directly published. The usual way is to send letters to their agencies in the hope they will forward it to the intended recipients.

Would you send them letters or wouldn't? I think I would - I think they don't get much fan mail, so they deserve the praise. And I'd like to ask Samantha Triba why Ginger Snap suddenly became a Motor Mouth, because I'm that curious. (I like her being Motor Mouth, either way.)

Well, I know Bridget Robbins' (Grapes') work email, as she is in charge of a TV station in her hometown. I never have corresponded with her, out of nervousness.

Haley Hyden-Soffer (Raspberry) is taxidermy911 on YouTube.

Many of the cast and crew used to have MySpace accounts, and currently have public Facebook accounts. Talking to them via Facebook seems bizarre, like an invasion of their privacy. Maybe I am alone in this opinion.

You know what? Forget being nervous. I am going to try to talk to Robbins and see what happens. *GULP* Good gravy, I've talked to Jerelyn Craden. I shouldn't be so nervous.

I really hope you do try to talk to her! I'm sure she doesn't bite. Smile

I was nervous to talk to the author of a book that I really liked when I found she had a Myspace, but she sent me a very personal reply that I really loved. I generally think, especially when approaching someone with the intent of letting them know you respect their work, it generally never goes wrong.
It's fun to say berry! I berry talk all the day through!

Meanwhile, I have found several SSC voice actors on Facebook. First I've found Samantha Triba (Ginger Snap) and already messaged her. She haven't answered yet, and to be honest, I doubt she's going to. The question then is whether I should stop here, or try to ask more of them. They might have different personalities - also their Facebook pictures are quite different (pictures tell a lot about personalities). Maybe some of them would be more likely to answer. What do you think?

I really hope they won't get it as harrasment. In general I discourage people to contact celebrities on their private accounts, but regarding the SSC voice actors, I don't think they are so famous to get an annoying number of random messages from fans. So maybe we would be just some of those few folks who messaged them, and so maybe they'd be even glad for our messages. In general, people love to get appreciated for their work, the problem only comes when the amount of feedbacks from fans distracts their ordinary life - and this situation doesn't stand now, as I see. The danger is that I wouldn't know - maybe they do get an overwhelming number of messages, I just don't suspect.

I have emailed Bridget Robbins. I am wondering if she and Samantha are asking each other what is going on now. Honestly, I mainly care about a response from Bridget Robbins. Hearing from other voice actors would be nice, just not the same at all.

They got messaged by 2 different people through 2 different media - I don't think they would see the connection. And such messages don't seem to be important enough to mention, so I don't think they would talk about it.

Anyway, I'd like to get some encouragement or discouragement regarding whether I should message the other voice actors or not. Maybe I would make up a sample message for them which I'd send to everyone I find.

There are some basic questions I'd ask from all voice actors:

  1. Did you love working on the production?
  2. Did you love your character?
  3. Is there something you have learned from your character?
  4. Do you have any behind-the-scenes information you'd like to share with SSC fans?
  5. Do you have any behind-the-scenes information you would tell about the 2003 SSC series?
  6. If (for any reason) the authors would decide to continue the 2003 series, would you take the job again?
Do you have more ideas?

In my opinion, we should not ask so many questions. If I were you I would just say that I like the VA's job in playing his/her role character, tell that I hope s/he will keep up his/her good work, and wishes him/her luck for any future jobs.

That's just my opinion, though.

Agreed.

You are right! It's safer to write up a short message that purely focuses on how we appreciate their work, with only one short question of whether they feel like to answer further questions later. You are right, sending a long initial message on a private account with many questions would be really too much intrusive. Thank you, guys! Good that I asked you first.
