The start of my collection
Posted by: Purplepieman12 - 07-13-2012, 01:35 PM - Forum: Dolls, Toys and Games - Replies (6)

Here is my collection so far. I just bought Lem & Ada in a sealed box, so they aren't in the pics....yet! I am still looking for sealed Fig Boot, Sour Grapes & Dregs, Blueberry Muffin & Cheesecake and Raspberry Tart & Rhubarb. So far, it's been a blast!

This story pretty much says it all.

So long trusty password that I had for 10+ years, but I have to ensure my account is secure.

Domain name transfer in progress! Edit: completed!
Posted by: RAMChYLD - 07-02-2012, 06:24 PM - Forum: Announcements - Replies (6)

As our domain expiry moves near, I have initiated a renew+transfer from the evil Pro-SOPA GoDaddy to Anti-SOPA NameCheap. Please be assured that nothing will be lost- this transfer is just like when we moved from strawberryforum.cx.cc to strawberryforum.org last year, except that this time, the address remains the same- no adjustment is needed from our users' end.

The transfer has started and will take up quite a few days in July to complete. However, During this time, downtime may occur. Do not be alarmed- the forum is safe and will remain in normal operation aside from the intermittent downtime. However, as a backup, remember that we have a backup announce/mailing list system at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sscdrom . Any concerns during forum downtime can be brought up there, and I strongly urge any member who has not yet sign up for the system to join.

I should also note that this new registrar is a bit more expensive- US$10.49 instead of US$9.99 - but it will be worth it and I will still be donating for it out of my pocket - in other words, you pay nothing for the domain. Put the money into good use instead- i.e., fund Kiwi and help out with our rent for the VPS Smile

Posted by: Purplepieman12 - 07-02-2012, 05:54 AM - Forum: Introductions - Replies (9)

Hello everyone,

First off, I want to introduce myself. My name is Shane and I'm from Big Sky country. I have always collected 82-87 GI Joes mint on card and wanted to get my sister into collecting her old toys mint in box to bring back that nostalgic feeling. I decided to buy her a 1980 Strawberry Shortcake mint in box for her birthday this year. She loved it....but so did I hahaha. I have always been a fan of 80's toys and have amassed quite a collection. I never thought that I would buy a Strawberry Shortcake doll, but now have 11 mint in sealed box and 3 animal accessories MISB (Butterfly, Snailcart and Maple Stirrup). I am a manly man, lift weights everyday, can grow a beard and love to collect SSC dolls! I am baffled by this, but have thoroughly enjoyed trying to find and collect these figures. My next is Fig Boot MISB....quite a challenge. Hope to hear from you and learn more about SSC toys....and please don't laugh at me because I am a guy hahaha Yes, I'm a bit embarrassed. Oh well, if you enjoy it, why not do it! Thanks!

 The Curtis "Klu" Tablet
Posted by: cpd2009 - 06-26-2012, 06:18 AM - Forum: Computers, Games & Tech - Replies (4)

This was posted in the Spam Thread, and it was moved here once, but I figured that I may as well put it here again since it's more fitting.

We went on a day trip yesterday, which involved a moderately sized South Dakota town, lots of driving around, a casino, and fireworks at dusk. I'm going to get to the part that involves the tablet.

I was casually strolling around Menards hoping to find some little gadget, but stocked in a section with electronics items was the Curtis Klu tablet. It was on sale for around $90, yet not being included in any recent sales flyers. I took a look at it, and to my surprise, it comes with Android 4.0! It also claims a 3-core 1.2ghz CPU with a GPU and 1080p media support. Seeing as how I discovered some issues with my old tablet (Use it for a few months, and it starts taking a horribly long time to boot up, occasional freezes, Android 2.3 without any Flash support), and the low price, I decided to pick it up.

I have been playing with the Klu tablet today, and it's very nice. In a couple ways, it's better than the old tablet, the first being Android 4.0. Android 4.0 seems to be far more polished than the older 2x versions in both functionality and appearance. The Klu also comes with an actual stylus, which I think makes resistive touchscreens more easier to use. I also notice that the Amazon AppStore behaves much better than with the old tablet, as there is actually room to unpack and install apps because the Klu's internal memory is partitioned a lot better. Oh, and I don't have to use QuickPic anymore for pictures. The default Android Gallery has improved a lot since the 2x versions, and it's nice to use. Oh, Flash is already installed.

As for performance, it's good for a device at this price. The Klu has a Quadrant score of "1,279". The old Polaroid did have a higher score in the 2,000's range, but the Klu still seems to be very responsive. As for the box claims of a "1.2ghz 3 Core" processor, it's pretty much a lie. The system information presented in Quadrant reads that the Klu only has a single-core ARM7 processor and the max frequency is 912mhz. The GPU is decent. Games like Angry Birds play good despite that there is some minor stuttering at times. Strange, since both the Polaroid and the Klu both have a GC800 GPU. Another thing I noticed is that another tablet, the Coby Kyros MID7016 is exactly the same as the Klu...except for Android 4.0. (the Kyros has Android 2.2 IIRC) The case design and button layout between the two are identical. Kyros tablets tend to go for much higher prices than what I got the Klu for.

As of now, I'm still playing around with it, and soon, I will fully customize the background image to my liking and finish up all personalization. I'm also continuing to test the battery life. It seems to be around 3 to 4 hours of general use so far. Once the new tablet is personalized and set up, I will post more pictures of it. I do already have a name in mind for the new tablet, but I'm not revealing it just yet.

 You and your computer(s)!!
Posted by: cpd2009 - 06-05-2012, 05:00 AM - Forum: Computers, Games & Tech - Replies (3)

Alright...since the thread wasn't started, I may as well start it. In this thread, to the best of your knowledge, tell about what your current computer is like, such as is it a laptop, desktop...what kind of processor it has, amount of RAM, etc.

Here is mine...

*Lilly*
Mid-2011 Apple Mac Mini

Lilly is my desktop computer, and she is mainly used for editing and transcoding video files and games, as well as being my main file store.

Processor: Intel Core i3 Dual-Core, 2.3ghz
OS: Mac OS X 10.7.4 "Lion"
RAM: 8gb
Hard Disk: 500gb
Graphics processor: Intel HD Graphics 3000 (integrated)

Lilly doesn't have any sort of optical drive being a highly compact computer, so I got a cheap Polaroid external DVD-RW drive that sits on top

*Greta*
Gateway NV57H83u Laptop PC

My to-go computer, and as of current, the one that gets the most attention.

Processor: Intel Pentium B960 Dual-Core, 2.2ghz
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium
RAM: 4gb
Hard Disk: 320gb
Graphics processor: Greta actually has two GPUs...the first one is the Intel HD Graphics 3000, integrated with the CPU, but she also has a dedicated NVIDIA GeForce 610m with 1gb dedicated VRAM. Greta has NVIDIA Optimus to switch between integrated and discrete graphics when needed.
Has DVD/CD Writer drive

Image is somewhat outdated now...read below

*Wendell*
Toshiba Satellite C655D-S5139 "Laptop"

Wendell was my to-go computer from March 17th last year until May 7th this year. Wendell was fine at first, but I later found out that Webkinz didn't run well at all...it was slow and really caused Wendell to become sluggish when said slow Flash content was running. Granted, he was a low-end laptop, but I thought the Radeon HD 6310 GPU would at least handle Flash okay. Thus, I went and purchased the Gateway that would become Greta. Now, Wendell is my Linux computer, and he runs Linux better than Windows.

Processor: AMD E-350 Dual-Core, 1.6ghz
OS: PCLinuxOS
RAM: 3gb
HDD: 250gb IIRC
Graphics: AMD Radeon HD 6310 (integrated)
Has DVD/CD Writer drive

*HONORABLE MENTION*

Jasper...my very old tower computer...acquired from one of my good friends who sadly has gone offline for no apparent reason for nearly a year. He has a Pentium III 1ghz processor, 1.5gb RAM, 160gb HDD, ASUS ATI Radeon 9600XT graphics card, 5.1 sound card, standard CD-ROM drive and a LG DVD/CD writer drive. Before Lilly, Jasper was my main file store and computer somewhat. If you just have casual games and applications that don't require a lot of system power, like playing music, Jasper was alright. The internet was slow though not because of the connection, but his old Pentium III couldn't keep up with the increasing complexity of web content. Thus, Lilly replaced him...all Jasper does is act as a stand to hold Lilly up so she has proper air flow and not overheat.

*IN LOVING MEMORY*

Chrysanthemum

My very first laptop.

A Gateway M285-E Tablet/Laptop convertible PC. She served me well from 2006 through March 2011. Sadly, her graphics processor was becoming increasingly unstable due to heat damage, and she is now almost completely unusable. Her battery wasn't much better. If she were perfectly alright and didn't have any problems, I would still be using her as my laptop computer. I still hang on to her though just because.
