Interesting.

I apologize for being away from the forums, but it's been a rather busy weekend being Labor Day and all. Carnival food, games, parades. you name it.

But, it's back to normal doings tomorrow. Summer is over apparently.

I want a Halloween Twinkie with orange "scream" filling. Tongue

Drought here, haze there.

Hope it rains again soon.

My childhood was weird. My entire life was weird. My older adult life is weird in a more positive way.

We went on a road trip this past weekend, and I was looking over some tablets at Walmart. I have been wanting a suitable replacement for Hazel and I tried at least two other tablets, but I realize I won't find that with low-end $100 tablets. I had to step up, and Walmart had what I wanted.... the RCA Maven Pro 11.6'' tablet.

The tablet has a quad core MTK8127 CPU, 32gb storage and 1gb RAM. OS is a near-vanilla Android 5.0 Lollipop with no custom UI attached. Bloatware is limited to pre-installed Google Apps, WPS Office, Opera browser and a few others unlike Hazel who ended up being plagued with loads of Samsung apps I never used.

Hazel was a great tablet, but she is starting to show her age in regards to newer apps like Sonic Dash and even Angry Birds. Thus, the upgrade was necessary. Below are the tablets AnTuTu scores:

In the end, I could have used the money to get a Windows 8.1 tablet, which was also around the same price range. But I already have lots of apps attached to my Google Play account and I find the Windows Store to be lackluster. There isn't even an official YouTube app for Win8.1!

In other news, I also got yet another Android device.... a Tracfone pre-paid Samsung Galaxy Centura. I just have to activate it, but I have to wait til tomorrow after I receive an important phone call.

That's 'swell, though I hope Mediatek would be just as generous with open-source support on their other chips as what they did with the Android One initiative.

Same processor family as my Blackberry Passport (Qualcomm SnapDragon 801), but the CPU and GPU is clocked faster. Also, all 4 cores are unlocked (the Passport restricts Android apps to only two of the 4 cores). It also have the same awesome 10-band LTE, 6-band UMTS and 4-band GSM radio of the Passport, but I'm not using it. Also has the same Bluetooth 4.0, 802.11ac WiFi with Miracast, and NFC readers as the passport, which I am using.

Excellent device, but the OS... Google is too full of themselves.

Hate Google Now, it keeps forcing BS "news" in my face under the guise of "everyone in your area is reading this" even when I told it I don't want to see any news outside of tech and toy collecting. And there's no Google Play Music either when I can buy music effortlessly off iTunes.

The only saving grace is that Kairosoft's Anime Studio Story is an Android Google Play Store exclusive. Otherwise it would serve no purpose outside of being my test rig for testing out a program I'm writing concurrently for it and iOS -.-

My RCA Maven Pro 11, Pumpkin, is a tad bit slower than your Sony tablet, and also has a smaller screen resolution at 1366x768. But I'm impressed with his performance so far. Angry Birds loads almost instantly and the OS overall is very snappy and responsive. It helps that he has a stock Android 5.0 setup but with a few links to RCA's website and preinstalled Opera and WPS Office. Pumpkin also came with a detachable keyboard that attaches via a magnetic connector thing. He then resembles a small 11'' laptop with a touchpad. Oh, he also has a full size USB port so you can plug in a flash drive directly. Smile

Only issue I have come across is app compatibility. Apps like AlJazeera America news won't work with Pumpkin, even though he is more than capable of running it being Android 5.0 and all. Hazel runs it fine.

In the end, Pumpkin has the performance I need while also having the near-vanilla Android experience low-end tablets can have. Also, full USB port. I admit it will be used sparingly, but at least I won't have to connect Pumpkin to either one of my PCs just to transfer files.

That's not my point. My point is Google is an asshole- for not letting me buy music, and for shoving news in my face that I already told it that I don't want to see, ever.

I'm very perplexed at the behavior of Apple bashing when Google is far worse -.-

I still am irked and worred at the fact that you still are bitter with things and stuff even after the self-imposed break. Dude, I really don't know how to help you out, as much as I'd like to. Sad
