What can cause a software to close itself right after starting? I have this one game that just recently kept doing that on my brother's PC while working fine on my PC.

Attempts so far:
-. Run as Admin
-. Reinstall game
-. Run game from external HDD
-. Disable Antivirus
-. Disable Firewall
-. Add game to antivirus exception.
-. Restart PC

None worked.

The operating system being bonkers, perhaps? Had that happen with both Madeline 2nd Grade Math and A Treehouse of My Own. That or perhaps the game disc itself is corrupt or the crack used is a dud.

I second the idea that the crack is either a dud or applied wrongly. Another possibility is bad video drivers.

It's hat day. Why isn't anyone in the War Themed Hat Simulator?

I notice that you never name what particular game you are troubleshooting. If it's okay to ask, what game are you trying to get to run?

As for the issue at hand, I have come across similar issues, but it's because I attempt to run a 10 year old puzzle or casual game with Win7. One of my Arkanoid clone collections only runs fine on XP since they refuse to work on WinVista or above no matter what compatibility settings I try. The game you are trying to run doesn't sound that old though.

Isn't it "Throwback Thursday" too? I don't know who came up with "Throwback Thursday", but every Thursday, I am bound to see an FB post with #ThrowbackThursday or similar, and they will talk about nostalgia and whatnot.

Yup, that has happened to me before with a few games/applications.

As for hats...

It's Elsword Online, Indonesian server. It runs fine on my PC, so I copied the entire game folder to external hdd and tried running the game from there, with both my PC and his PC. The result still the same. works fine on my PC while closes itself on his PC. I checked with dxdiag and found that we have the same video driver. Though his version is newer than mine.

Last night I found out that many other people also got affected. It's possibly something inside the latest update. Maybe for now I'll wait and see if they're gonna patch it later. Hopefully.

It could also be an issue with the newer video driver on your brothers PC. Sometimes video driver updates can cause games to break, due to bugs in the drivers themselves, or dropping support for certain features the game used.

I love Nintendo, especially for their Mario franchise. However, it seems lately that the big N has been making very stupid decisions regarding their consoles and games. On the hardware front, the Wii U is somewhat underpowered compared to the PS4 and Xbone, and they aren't really embracing third party development. They seem to rely only on their Mario, Zelda, and other first party titles to sell systems. The name of the system is confusing too. Why Wii U? People still think that the Wii U is an accessory to the original Wii, not a new system.

That trend is continuing with the "new" 3DS, an updated version of the popular Nintendo 3DS system. It new features are a faster processor, switchable plastic covers featuring different designs, and a second analog pad. It also has NFC so you can scan Amiibo figures that you can use with certain games. However...

There are a few things wrong with the "new" 3DS. First off... no AC adapter. Why? Not everyone who buys the "new" 3DS will have their old 3DS around. Some people will buy the "new" 3DS as their first 3DS system altogether. Charging extra for an AC adapter is just poor. Second, I read somewhere that games programmed for the "new" 3DS will be incompatible with the original 3DS. Couldn't they program in a compatibility mode of sorts? Any new games specificially for the "new" 3DS, no matter how good they are, are just a way Nintendo is forcing users to upgrade, and I haven't even had Clifford (my 3DS) for barely two years as it is!

I dunno... I hope I don't come off as being anti-Nintendo, because I'm not. Nintendo, I feel, is making some dumb decisions here. I'm sure the "new" 3DS will have great features and games for people new to the 3DS. For people like me who only had an original 3DS for barely two years, this feels like a slap in the face, especially when it comes to the specially programmed games that won't run for the older 3DS.

To close, here is Stuart Ashen and his review of the European "new" 3DS "Ambassador Edition".

One last thing... the "new" 3DS is still region locked. Sad

Yeah, I'm afraid if Nintendo doesn't learn from the lessons and keep on screwing up, they'd probably end up being the next Sega.
