The Spam Thread!
Just pass me a friend code. I have some things (i.e. foreign fruit that you can plant in your town) I can send you which can help you pay off the mortgage faster.

It's already paid, thanks to me catching that stringfish. Tongue Thanks for the offer though. Smile

I shall send you my friend code soon. I already have yours, thanks to your PM that you sent my way regarding your AC town.

Well, I don't want to spoil it for you, but, don't go into Nook's store until you're sure that you're ready to start paying mortgage again (which, of course, is unrealistic and unavoidable). The first thing he'll do if you visit his store the next day is force an upgrade onto you which cannot be backed out of. And the cycle will repeat itself about three more times.

The only thing you can do is hold your head up high and keep paying off those mortgages through whatever means possible.

Great to hear! My brother just came back last night, and thankfully, there is no snow to complicate things.

In other news, I have decided with a slightly heavy heart to give Wendell, my Toshiba Laptop, to my sister for a surprise Christmas gift. She no longer uses the outdated Gateway dinosaur that was our original family computer, and she uses my mom's computer for online stuff.

I love Wendell, but unfortunately, he hasn't got much use since I acquired Greta. He still runs great, but again, I really don't use him that much anymore. Whenever I get online or work with computers, it's mostly Lilly or Greta. Wendell is basically getting shunned. Sad

This means that tonight, I will back up all the data he contains to my portable hard disk, delete my current profile, rename the system, and customize the laptop for my sister. I am thinking of making the system backup disks just in case something happens to it and she ever needs to reformat it, but I already have the disks made, and if she ever has a computer problem, she would probably just ask me since I usually my home's IT department. Tongue

All in all,I think she will really like the new laptop, but I will have to urge her to keep it safe. She has a family, and I do not want the laptop to get subjected to toddlers.

That's good to hear, and I'm happy for you.

Does any of you know where I can get a freeware for editing audio/video files safely? If you remember my other thread about asking for help because my laptop is infected, I got the infection from downloading a freeware from the first google search result. That's why I'm now looking for a safe place to get it.

Well, depends on how thorough. If you only need to clip out portions of an avi file, VirtualDub is good enough. If the video only needs to be a little more complicated, Windows Live Movie Maker should also be good enough. However, if you need something much more complicated, then your only choice is to dual-boot Linux and use Cinerella.

Go with Windows Live Movie Maker, now known as Windows Movie Maker 2012. If you just need a basic editor, go for this.

For something slightly more advanced, go for Windows Movie Maker 2.6, also from Microsoft's website. Here is the link: <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=34">http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download ... aspx?id=34</a><!-- m -->

Though this is for Windows Vista, it will run on Windows 7. One thing to remember with WMM 2.6 is that it tends to freeze sometimes. If you edit video, make sure to save often! I cannot stress that enough. If you videos are in MP4 format (not Divx AVI), you may have to go with WMM 2012 since WMM 2.6 cannot natively use MP4 files unless you mess with codecs and rename file extensions.

As for me, I now use Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0. It's a horribly outdated version, but I got a full Production Premium disk set second hand, and it works on Windows 7, so I can't complain. One problem. Current versions of Premiere Pro cost anywhere from $250 to $700+ USD. I cannot even afford that at this point, so I'm thankful I got my second hand Production Premium set when I did.

VideoLAN has been promising a VLC video editor, but nothing has materialized yet. Any other Windows video editing program that isn't open source is shareware. >.<

Now, if you excuse me, I need to go play some Animal Crossing: City Folk. There is some sort of Christmas event going on, and I also need to send David my friend code and town stuff. Oh, and I also need to get my house upgraded against my will.

Oh, no I don't. I already know about Tom Nook's dirty secrets. I will just agree with the upgrade and get help to pay each upgrade off.

Well, Animal Crossing is indeed fun!

Unlike Webkinz, I don't have to play it every night, though you do have to check in a couple times a week. So far, I purchased my house upgrade, did the Christmas Eve thing, caught another Stringfish which retails for about 13,000 Bells when sold to Tom Nook, and I have taken a couple trips to the city to learn new emotions and look at the city sights.

Oh, and I already met Mr. Resetti at the start of the game. I save every time I am done playing. Wink

I have inputted your friend code in my register, David. I tried to connect to WFC earlier, and it wouldn't connect, even as all my other computers were connected just fine! I will try again tomorrow.

On vacation, stuck with a horrible 56k-like speed because my cellco has lousy coverage in the area (ok, I actually called them. In the midst of the confusion caused by my line periodically fading out, I learnt that they actually have ZERO actual coverage in the area, and the closest tower is far away enough to only provide a periodic spotty reception depending on wind direction) and the best I can get right now is a spotty 2G GSM signal that have the tendency to completely vanish, if not function at between 28.8-56k speeds.

Man, I no longer miss the "good ol'" days of dial-up now that I am technically experiencing it firsthand. I even have to use dial-up connection to get Violette to use Wallace as a USB modem. See, that's how tethering in Symbian works. No USB router nonsense like that of Android. Although, Wallace is capable of speeds of up to 7.2Mbps at 3.5G, but my cellco throttles my speed to only 1.5Mbps if using 3.5G. But as it stands, the only signal available to me at the moment is a spotty 2G GSM signal.
